On official Battle.net servers how does the /ping command work?

I have only played on pvpgn(3dgames/ombuserver) and there you can see the real name of spoofed players using /ping.

Does this works the same on battle.net?

Isn't a more automatic/reliable/fast way to spoofcheck/reject spoofed players?

Edit: adding [Idea] to the title

WTF:
Title: shoopfcheck with /ping?
topic content: is there a /ping command?

fail post in wrong section, putting a [idea] in front of the title doesn't make this better.
